With his style instantly recognizable among thousands, Kevin’s piece impresses with a random forged Damascus pattern combined with an extremely complex handle construction. The lightness with which he plays on alliances between materials and textures, where an orange peel surface touches on a polished finish, the parts that are hammered somehow echo those that are engraved. His is quite an unexpected and refreshing take on the project, with a Japanese influence that shines through ever so subtly.

Knifemaker

Kevin Klein

From Massachusetts, USA.

A bladesmithing class with Master Smith J.D. Smith in his final semester at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design sealed Kevin’s destiny. Three-and-ahalf years of apprenticing and assistant-teaching JD’s classes at MassArt later, in 2016, he became a full-time knife-maker, his ornate fighting knives, daggers, and swords already showing a distinctive style. Fusing Eastern and Western traditions, crisp lines, Damascus, mokume, carving, and textural interplay define Kevin’s work – for the moment.
