Curt Haaland J.S. #2
INQUIRIES ONLY
Born from a billet of Damascus steel with a W pattern, flat grind and shallow fuller. The handle is delicately carved with taut lines components seem to merge into an indissociable, perfectly balanced whole which can be stripped down into its separate elements. Here, the second youngest of our knife-makers surpassed himself, already having mastered the art of making hard work seem effortless, true as ever to the idea that a knife is at once a tool and an expression of art. The fact that it is a take-down attests to this being a creation that is more than the sum of its parts.

Knifemaker

Curtis Haaland

From Tennessee, USA.

Curtis feels we all are born with a desire to create and that he is especially fortunate to have found his purpose in the craft of knife-making. Growing up in a family of artists, he learned to love working with his hands and developed a keen aesthetic sense. At 17, he found his destiny, forging his first blade with mild steel, cheap tools and a makeshift forge. A few years later, Master Smith Burt Foster took him under his wing and taught him about quality craftsmanship; his style and generosity woke in Curtis the desire to make a living from his art. Jason Knight would also be a guide, bringing him into a professional shop where he could stretch his abilities. Today, Curtis soars with his own wings, pushing the limits, in his own shop, built with his dad in the place where it all began.
